Jaguar XJ @ Galerie Nikki

Jaguar XJ

We met up at the Galerie Nikki, Place des Vosges, for the real-life unveiling of the Jaguar XJ, which was announced last July.

With some beautiful technical innovations and a completely numerical dashboard, Jaguar has supported its program of modernisation with work on the design and on more efficient engines.

Jaguar XJ

The first impression of the XJ is shaped by its very imposing size and radiator grille, and the most knowledgeable amongst you will be reminded of the lines of an Aston Martin.

It is worth noting that Ian Callum has taken over the position of Jaguar design director, and this has had an effect on the contours of the car, most notably on the wheel arches. This car is both dynamic and sporty – Jaguar has embraced change and the result is compelling.

For those who love the ostentatious image of this manufacturer, from now on you will have to buy a Porsche, Bentley or Rolls Royce if you want a car with a hint of arrogance.

The effect was slightly spoilt by the XJ logo on the rear number plate that breaks up the magnificent, fluid design. Luckily, it can be removed.

The interior has also evolved, with the blue cockpit-lighting at the level of the air vents, the central command system, the cigarette lighter and the pedals creating a calming effect, provoking that irresistible desire to drive for hours. The 3D GPS screen allows you to separate the driver and passenger viewpoints thanks to a double vision system.

The wood and leather yacht-style finish brightens up the cockpit, notably on the dashboard with a wooden fascia that highlights the depth of the car.

As for the seats – they are extremely comfortable and the driving position seems very dynamic.

We hope to verify this on the road with the 5-litre Supercharged V8 version that develops 625 lb/ft of torque and catapults the beautiful vehicle from 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds, according to the manufacturer.

You can find a selection of videos and innovations in our last article as well as on Jaguar’s website.

Je suis toujours fan de Jag’, une petite préférence pour la X-type, là c’est du gros du lourd mais qu’est ce que c’est bon. Un petit plus pour cette imposante console centrale…
