La nouvelle Samaritaine
We have been left in suspense over the re-opening of La Samaritaine in Paris for several months. However it has just been revealed that the site will be completely transformed, surrounded by a glass frame, with 2014 given as the expected opening date.
The largest Parisian store (more than 48,000 square metres), which opened in 1869 and has been closed since 2005, is set to be given a complete overhaul, as the video of the project shows.
An architectural, social, economic and touristic project, the new La Samaritaine pays homage to the previous landmark and its heritage. So the store’s glass features, with its Art Deco style staircases, will be renovated: until now they had been completely run down, with lacerated windows. On the floors of the different levels, the original glass flagstones, which have been progressively covered up, will also be restored.
Along with architect Edouard François, the Japanese group in charge of the project, Sanaa, have come up with a transparent glass facade for the rue de Rivoli side, which becomes opaque at certain points and reflects the exterior landscape.
Maintaining a dedicated commercial space (26,000 m²) on levels -1, 0, 1 and 2, La Samaritaine will now be host to a “Cheval blanc” hotel with 80 rooms which will be situated on the banks of the Seine.
On the 3rd and 4th floors there will be 20,000 m² of office space, 7,000 m² of housing for 250 people and a crèche for 60 children.
Look out for it in 2014!

Pas de réaction à la nouvelle Samaritaine,eh oui ,normal, les gens ont perdu patience et n’y accordent plus d’attention.Je les comprends ..plus de cinq ans de fermeture!! et déja 3ans de retard avant ouverture….!!c’est vraiment trop (2 ans c’est ma limite ,moi ), pour un tel petit projet immobiler.Espérons donc que cela soit un projet grandiose symboliquement ou spirituellement parlant…
quand je pense a ce qui se fait ailleurs pour les touristes de luxe, ça me rend tres triste :tours collossales, Iles artificielles paradisiaques et autres projets titanesques réalisés ds des temps records !… des milliards de milliards détournés de l’investiment
dans la sauvegardede la planette et de la vie .
Tout chagrin etsincèrement votre.

Nous organisons un colloque international sur les stratégies de la préservation et de la mise en valeur du bâti ancien.
Cette année, parce que la reconversion de la Samaritaine représente un cas d’espèces de choix, ce colloque se fait en partenariat avec La Samaritaine, la maîtrise d’ouvrage de ce vaste projet.
Placé sous la responsabilité scientifique de Jean-François Cabestan, architecte du patrimoine et
enseignant à l’Université de Paris 1 – Panthéon-Sorbonne, le colloque traitera plus spécifiquement de la reconversion des magasins 2 et 4.
Les présentations se dérouleront le 7 et 8 juillet de 9h00 à 18h00 à l’Institut National de l’Histoire de l’Art.
