Theo Jansen, sculpteur cinétique

Theo Jansen is a Dutch artist, but first and foremost an incredible engineer. His true job title would be ‘kinetic sculptor’. His constructions, which resemble animal skeletons, function thanks to something very simple – the power of the wind.

“The walls between art and engineering exist only in our minds.”

theo jansen

This engineer has used and developed new, complex kinetic algorithms for more than ten years. His creations allow his “animal companions” to walk along the beaches of Holland.

The structures are extremely light as they are made out of plastic tubing, and move thanks to a system of compressed air that is stored in plastic soda bottles.

Incroyable!
