Veuve Clicquot : Première Partie

When Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin sent us an invitation to discover the culture and the inner workings of the brand, I didn’t think this first event would make me feel as though I had broken the restraints of time and reality.
It all began on Tuesday 2 September, in the company of the 5 other bloggers who had been invited:
Notcot, Coolhunting, Joshspear, Yatzer and FrizziFrizzi.

For once, the entire program was a surprise. So the bloggers, who had come from all four corners of the world and were still getting over their jetlag, met up at the Plaza Athénée, where we met with the designer Christophe Pillet who is the creator of, amongst other things, a magnificent Veuve-Clicquot ice bucket.

The night really got underway on board a sumptuous Parisian yacht, the “Cachemire”, which is entirely decorated in luxury wood panelling. The impressively large Riva Cruiser Collection also served as a means of storing bottles of “La Grande Dame 1998”. A coincidence, as Madame Lia Riva personally granted us the honour of being allowed to be part of the crew that night, as we travelled the length of Paris.

“The meal is prepared according to the two champagnes that we are going to drink, and not the other way round!”
This was the very definition of a tasting session, which gave us the chance to explore flavours that only champagne can deliver. So we had the opportunity to taste the morel in cream of green asparagus and beef consommé, followed by tender veal mignon ‘à la truffe’.

Dessert was cut short as we passed under the Eiffel Tower, which crackled to the rhythm of the bubbles in our champagne glasses. I haven’t viewed Paris as a tourist for many years, but what Parisian couldn’t celebrate such a wonderful moment? Truly splendid…
