Les Cocottes de Christian Constant

Christian Constant’s “Les Cocottes”, a small, almost hidden restaurant in rue Saint Dominique in the 7th arrondissement, was a delightful culinary surprise that we wholeheartedly recommend.

As you will have no doubt noticed, this restaurant pays homage to classic casserole dishes, with a twist in each recipe and colourful presentation. This ethos has seeped into the décor as well, which takes pains to distance itself from dusty, outdated clichés.

We sat down at the bar, the centrepiece of the wooden furnishings that makes the meal a particularly friendly affair, whilst at the same time offering enough personal space to avoid feeling squashed.

Needless to say the meal was delicious, and fairly well balanced in terms of quantity between the generous aperitif that constituted the starter, and the main course.

As looking ridiculous isn’t the end of the world, we decided to finish the meal with the imposing waffle, which required both the determination to eat it all, and the ability to laugh at oneself to avoid feeling as silly as we looked.

Having given the waiter the freedom to select the wine for us, the Bandol (white) that he chose complimented our meal perfectly.

Finally, to end this note, we must highlight the impeccable and friendly service of the waiters/waitresses.

The only negative point, albeit a very minor one, is the fact that you cannot make a reservation in advance. If you arrive on a Saturday night like us, be prepared for a short wait of some twenty minutes, which will glide by with a glass of wine to hand.

Public parking is available adjacent to the restaurant, with a genuine valet who will park your car.
