Meubles Acne

Acne Furniture

Acne, the archetypal jeans specialist, has officially launched its furniture collection in collaboration with the Carl Malmsten studio.

The brand’s artistic director, Jonny Johansson, puts this very personal choice down to the fact that he himself grew up amongst the furniture of the Swedish designer in his grandmother’s house. This resulted in a bond that fuelled his interest in all of the pieces designed by Carl, before he finally fell in love with the Nya Berline (New Berlin) model, which was discontinued in 1949.

Just as with a clothing piece, Jonny Johansson has worked on the distortion of proportions, the lines and the structure by stretching and reworking the shapes to obtain the simplest possible form.

The surface of the sofas has also been worked upon in the same way as the jeans, with phases of washing out and dyeing to obtain an indigo finish that will develop aesthetically with time.

A first attempt that is far more conclusive than the images distributed in October 2009 with a very impersonal collection (see below).
