Philips NP2900

I was recently invited by Philips to the verdant hills of Lisbon, where I was able to discover all their upcoming lifestyle and high-tech products – a wide selection of innovative, refined and stylish items.

The first product to really impress me was a mini hi-fi ‘streaming’ system (the NP2900 and NP2500 models) that stood out thanks to its size and its efficiency.

In terms of design, the fact that it is only 34cm long and extremely thin gives it a discreet and elegant appearance. Its colour LCD screen is bright and clear enough to be viewed from several metres away.

However it is the ‘streaming’ technology that gives this hi-fi its unique selling point, as it is capable of reading each and every one of the MP3s on your PC or Mac. As well as reading audio files, the system also displays the album cover art on its LCD screen.

Finally, I was also pleasantly surprised by the sound quality. Four speakers linked to an amplifier provide a sound that really fills the room, no matter where you are in relation to the hi-fi system, which is powerful enough for an aperitif with friends or whilst a party is getting going.

A small yet useful feature is that you can connect up your traditional speakers to this device to reap the benefits of the ‘streaming’ system and save money on a complete hi-fi system.

Comes with a remote control. Price will be announced upon its release in France. In the meantime, check out the NP2500 model.
