Sony Ericsson Pureness

Before the Sony Ericsson Pureness was released we rarely took an interest in mobile phones, mainly because of a lack of innovation and style on the part of the manufacturers who, out of desperation, simply tried to copy the iPhone and the Blackberry by tacking on some vulgar gadgets.

However, there are customers who just want simplicity and elegance.

Unique & Exclusive

Sold in a selection of handpicked boutiques (to avoid naming Colette), the Pureness is astonishing. Honestly.

It’s easy to get to grips with this phone, whose simple, straight-edged design conjures up the image of a glossy metal jewellery case. This impression is reinforced by the chrome-bordered transparent screen.

Simple (Talk. Text. Time.)

Out with the gadgets, the multi-touch capabilities and the LEDs… In with the simple and beautiful. We really liked the black & white screen that still lets you view photos and videos.

The menu is just as simple, with quick access to the essential functions: SMS, contact list and call history as well as direct access to the alarm and the 2GB MP3 player.

Pureness Services

If your phone stops working, it will be replaced within 48 hours, wherever you are in the world.

For the more demanding client, Sony Ericsson has set up a premium concierge system reserved for the users of this model. This subscription includes advantages for travel (upgrades), restaurants (last minute reservations) and clubs (V.I.P. areas), as well as access to film premieres, tickets for sold out sporting events, personal shoppers and the classic services. We won’t miss the chance to try it out!

The accessories

Don’t expect to receive a box full of extras and instruction manuals.

The Pureness comes with a pair of Bluetooth “earplug” headphones that will be welcomed by audiophiles.

Our Thoughts

I swapped my Blackberry Curve for the Sony Ericsson Pureness for a week.

Smaller, lighter and above all simpler, I enjoyed the return to simplicity that I viewed as more of a comfort than a regression.

The second thing I noticed about this phone was the impressive attention to detail – the team really did work hard on every single aspect: from the keypad that slowly lights up to the icons and menu interactions.

As for the battery life, the Pureness performs well and a full charge will last almost two days with normal use (telephone, SMS, MP3).

I also liked the system that allows you to follow the history of an SMS conversation, as well as the possibility of receiving emails with 3G, although I must confess I deactivated the latter in order to really get back to basics.

If you plan on treating yourself to this piece of jewellery make sure that you delete any delicate or inappropriate messages, as everyone who lays eyes on this phone will want to have a look. I learned that to my cost!

My only problem with this phone is the obligatory use of Sony connections instead of the classic USB, but it’s just a technical detail.
