Les Jardins de Marqueyssac
In the middle of the Périgord nord is the Château de Marqueyssac and its sumptuous gardens.
Towering one hundred and thirty metres above the Dordogne valley, the 18th century stronghold is surrounded by 22 acres and six kilometres of shaded walkways, made up of 150,000 hundred-year-old trimmed box hedge plants, among which you can find panoramic viewpoints, waterfalls and rock gardens.
Marqueyssac in candlelight
During summer, every Thursday evening is dedicated to candlelight, where the gardens are dotted with thousands of candles, which illuminate the groves in their soft glow.
This spectacular landscape surely offers one of the most spectacular views of the Dordogne. A place where you could easily come across a gardener pruning the famous box hedge while surrounded by a group of peacocks.
