Founded in 1921, Gucci began as a humble Florentine leatherwear brand. Under the watchful eye of Guccio Gucci, the brand soon grew into a powerful Italian fashion house. Inspired by the equestrian-inspired sartorial elegance of British aristocrats of the time, Gucci’s design aesthetic rapidly found favor with the European jetset.
From the 50’s onwards, Gucci began to seek international renown, establishing itself across the globe. Prestigious brand ambassadors including Grace Kelly and Jackie O made items bearing the famous ‘double G’ print brand into must-have items. At the dawn of the 21st century, Gucci came to an agreement with luxury empire Pinault-Printemps-Redoute in order to secure future strategic diversification.
Following in the footsteps of several strong male figures including Tom Ford and Stefano Pilati, Frida Giannini is currently creative director at Gucci. She brings her own poetic, modern and ever so slightly feminine point of view to Gucci’s menswear and accessory collections.
