Persol

Persol is an eyewear brand that also specialises in sunglasses. Founded in 1917 by Giuseppe Ratti, Persol – Per il Sole (for the sun) – first devoted itself to the manufacture of aviation glasses.
In 1957, Persol created the legendary 649, made originally for the tram drivers of Turin, but then immortalised in 1961 when Marcello Mastroianni wore them in the film “Divorce Italian Style”.
The Fleche (a functional detail and trim that would become synonymous with the brand) and Meflecto (a clever system to make the sides flexible) are two of the Persol characteristics.
The design of glasses aimed at racing drivers was the next feature to truly define the Persol identity. Stars from Steve McQueen to Gretta Garbo quickly adopted their creations.
