Essai de la Peugeot EX1 et de la RCZ sur circuit

Peugeot EX1

We recently took part in a phenomenal test drive day at the Montlhéry racing circuit in the EX1 Concept Car and the 308 RCZ.

The Montlhéry circuit is racing legend: not only has it contributed to more than 1000 world records, but it has also, sadly, taken the lives of numerous experienced drivers.

It is therefore unsurprising that Peugeot chose the track to announce that it had beaten 3 world acceleration records by going from 0-100 km/h in 3,58 seconds with a maximum speed of 260km/h thanks to the EX1.

Peugeot EX1
It was one of the 21st Century’s most successful explorers, Nicolas Vanier, who executed the challenge.  During our interview, Vanier explained, and with good reason, that he hopes to see the car

« evolve into a more sophisticated model without losing its thrill factor. I prefer to work with car manufacturers who are looking to revolutionise the car industry on a global scale, rather than moan to me, which is the case with the majority of ecologists. I’m am optimist and truly believe that we should be able to maintain the pleasure of travelling at all costs.».

Equipped with two lithium-ion batteries on each axle, the EX1 is powered by motors that equal 340ch (250kw) and boasts an innovative design and aerodynamic qualities. Once in action, the car makes an absolutely deafening sound similar to that of a fighter plane taking off.

Peugeot 404 Diesel

Gilles Vidal who was responsible for the car’s design took his inspiration from Diesel’s legendary 404 model which is famous for holding a number of world speed records in its own right.

Peugeot RCZ

Finally, the day came to an end with the opportunity to test drive the 308RCZ. It’s normally possible to film during a test drive, or at least keep your eyes fixed on the horizon. This was not the case in the 308 RCZ as we found ourselves thrown all over the place as the car mounted the historic track’s bends. We were shaking in our boots long after the drive had finished…

All in all, it was an exhilarating day that reassured us about the future of the car industry. Up until that point, with the odd exception of big names like Tesla and Porsche, we’d been worried that car manufacturing was heading towards a future of small, cheap get-arounds. We’re happy to report that that will not be the case.
