La Planète Mode de Jean Paul Gaultier à Montréal

We jetted off to Montréal to visit the magnificent exhibition “La Planète Mode de Jean Paul Gaultier, de la Rue aux Étoiles” which is being held in the city’s Beaux-Arts Museum until 2nd October.

In good company, we wandered through the corridors and rooms of this superb retrospective dedicated to fashion’s enfant terrible (a name which he actually doesn’t like!) and now offer you the chance to discover a preview through photos and a video.

Celebrating 35 years of French couturier design, the Gaultier house and MBAM have worked hand in hand to produce a formidable treasure trove: no less than 140 outfits with emblematic accessories from the ready-to-wear and haute-couture ranges, complimented by innumerable videos, sketches and photographs by creative geniuses such as Warhol and Pierre and Gilles…

You would no doubt expect to come across Madonna’s pointed corset or the teddy bear that Jean Paul started to create; yet you will also be amazed to discover pieces that have never been put on display until now.

We love the androgynous – yet far from asexual – silhouettes that he creates and recreates every season, and even the Punk Cancan period is a major hit. Skin deep, Boudoir, Urban jungle… there are six sections to explore.

A slightly confusing tactic makes the models come to life thanks to a clever set of projections that make the faces move, look at you and speak.

After Montréal, the exhibition will move to Dallas, San Francisco, Madrid then Rotterdam, but unfortunately it is not scheduled for Paris. We can only invite our friends in Quebec to go and visit, and incite other Europeans lucky enough to get the opportunity to go and admire the genius and the humanity of this designer.

    J’ai entendu qu’aucune salle parisienne n’avait accepté de recevoir l’exposition. Ca me parait quand même assez fou. Si c’est le cas, les français sont vraiment, mais alors vraiment des crétins finis.
    Peut être que la rédaction connait la raison ^^

    @Romain : Excellente question, nous ne l’avons pas abordé avec l’équipe JPG mais il semblerait qu’il s’agisse de détails politiques. C’est très triste en effet et très dommage…

    C’est inadmissible que l’expo ne se déroule pas en France, c’est juste un des créateurs français les plus talentueux depuis 35 ans, je ne comprends vraiment pas, M Delanoë devrait accepter l’expo à la mairie de Paris, ce serait un bel hommage à JPG, j’espère que l’on aura quand même cet expo en France, car j’ai très envie de la voir, étant un inconditionnel de JPG
